WSOP: Fleck Takes Third and Rossi Eight in Stud Event; Marquez Sixth in 6-Max | 16

Even though no woman has won a bracelet yet, female poker players continue to make final tables at the WSOP this summer. Yesterday mixed games player Katherine Fleck, who just a couple of days ago finished in 16th place of the 10k H.O.R.S.E. Championship, went on to take third place in Event #31: $1,500 Seven Card Stud. Fleck entered the final table 6th in chips and was able to ladder up eliminating poker villain Chris Ferguson on her way. Fleck took home $43,765 for her impressive run.

Esther Rossi made the final table as well, but bowed out in 8th place for $8,355. Rossi, who cashed in her first WSOP event 30 years ago, has had plenty of WSOP cashes over the years, many of them in Seven Card Stud tournaments. In 1988 she finished runner up to Loretta Huber in the Ladies Event, which at that time was a $500 Seven Card Stud Event. In 1992 she was runner-up in the $2,500 Stud Event. Rossi’s biggest cash so far came in 2008 when she finished in 4th place of a $1,500 H.O.R.S.E event and took home $68,505.

Another poker player who has been consistently cashing over the years is Ana Marquez. With 1,245,240 in live tournament earnings the Spanish pro has enjoyed a lot of success since she first cashed in a tournament in 2009. This spring she won the High Roller at 888poker live Bucharest for $32,068.

Before playing the WSOP this summer Marquez had not made a WSOP final table, but that changed when she made the final table of Event #28: $3,000 NLH 6-max. Marquez entered the final table as a huge dog with just 10 big blinds and was not able to spin it up, running a pair of sixes into Gary Hasson’s pocket nines. Marquez took home $67,166 for her deep run.

Here is a peek at some of the biggest and dramatic wins of the 3rd week. Michael “the Grinder Mizrachi” managed to bag his 5th bracelet in the $1500 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better. Of course we were right there when the last card was dealt and in the fashion we’ve come to love from the Grinder he compared his winning 5 bracelets to popping out kids.

All eyes were glued to the $10K Dealers Choice this week as Shaun Deeb and Adam Friedman battled it out. Shaun was unhappy with the decision to stop play 5 handed and come back for Day 4.

Deeb finished runner-up and the bigger story shifted to the fact that Adam Friedman won this tournament back-to-back, making him arguably the most versatile poker player in the world.

Drama continued in the argument about whether to include the Final Fify in the Fantasy Draft. This affects both fantasy drafts and many side bets with LOTS of Money on the line. People seemed divided evenly on both sides of the issue and so Daniel Negreanu decided to institute three neutral arbitrators, Isaac Haxton, Jason Somerville and Phil Galfond.

And as of Late last night the issue has been put to bed. The additional tournament will not be included.
Upeshka De Silva has catapulted into the lead in the 2019 WSOP Player of the Year race after having earned his third career bracelet in Event #38: $600 WSOP.com ONLINE No-Limit Hold’em Knockout Bounty That finish came just after De Silva came in third in Event #31: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed which along with four other cashes give him enough points currently to sit at No. 1. Have a look at where the players stand to date.

partypoker LIVE Giving Online Option for Start of Main Events

partypoker LIVE Giving Online Option for Start of Main Events 32

Do you like news about partypoker? Well, you are about to get more news about partypoker. The online poker room has announced that it will begin allowing players who wish to compete in the partypoker LIVE events the opportunity to begin the tournaments on the internet.

It sounds a little weird, but the structure is quite simple. Those who start the tournament online will compete during the first two days on partypoker and then join the live tournament on Day 3. Those playing at the live venue will just play poker as normal through the first two days.

Everyone who makes it to Day 3, whether they start online or live, will be in the money.

On the partypoker blog, partypoker Managing Director Tom Waters said:

This is a great concept and the fact that players will not have to travel to a live event until they are in the money is brilliant.

It means more flexibility for players and will save them on travel and expenses.

We’re trying to make our tournaments more accessible and I really hope this idea is a success, helping those players that find it difficult to take time off work, as well as reducing costs for everyone.

In a short video introducing the idea, partypoker LIVE founder and owner of the Dusk Till Dawn poker club Rob Yong said that he hopes that giving more players the opportunity to participate will bring more people out to the partypoker LIVE Main Events.

He added that this is in experimental mode right now and that if it’s a hit then partypoker will continue with it, but if players don’t like it, then they will ditch the concept.

There is no mention on the partypoker website of there being any break between Day 2 and Day 3, so one would assume that players who survive Day 2 online will still have to make it over to the partypoker LIVE venue for the tournament the next day. Thus, the players will still need to be within a reasonable travel distance. That said, it will definitely allow people to save time and money if they are knocked out in either of the first two days.

While different, the online-to-live format is not a completely foreign concept in poker. When the World Series of Poker introduced its first online bracelet event, it was scheduled to pause after the final table was determined and then moved to the Rio the next day to finish it up live. Players complained that those who lived several hours away would have a rough go of it if they made the final table and then immediately had to drive to Las Vegas, so a one-day gap was inserted.

After the first two years of online bracelet events, the World Series of Poker scrapped the live final table idea and kept all of the events completely online.

The next partypoker LIVE event is MILLIONS Vegas @ Aria from June 28th to July 2nd.
